Last weekend I headed down to New York City. One of my oldest and best friends, Sophie, is getting married in May and we had her shower and bachelorette party on Saturday. I promised I would feature some homes of friends and clients, so she is my first feature. Sophie is half French and half English and although she grew up in Boston she still seems very European to me. She has always had a confident style about her which I have admired over the last twenty years. Little tidbits about Soph: she is fluent in french and in "dog". She has the most amazing collection of swimwear and beach wraps/ tunics/coverups you have ever seen. She loves to travel, entertain, and karaoke (as witnessed this weekend!). Sophie works at Ralph Lauren Home as a senior manager in the marketing and communications department. She describes her personal style as classic with modern and ethnic influences. I asked Sophie what was the biggest lesson she learned while renovating and decorating her own place. My biggest lesson was to not rush into anything just because I wanted the apartment to be decorated and finished immediately. The most important thing is to live in the space before adding final touches like art work, accessories and even window treatments! This is her one-bedroom apartment on the upper East Side. She bought it last year and renovated it. Here is a shot of her living room before she gave it her magical touch.

Here is the same view now:

I am missing shots of her lovely blue bathroom.
LOVE:
-The restrained use of animal prints - love the needlepoint cheetah in entry
-The kickass window treatment. Great cornice box really sets the tone for her living room. She also coordinated the kitchen roman shade in the same fabric and trim since the two rooms are open to eachother.
- Use of wallpaper in kitchen and entry hall.
-Great use of colors and patterns and mixture of to-the-trade items and other mainstream companies (West Elm, CB2 etc.)
Merci Sophie!
