Favorite Room

Markham Roberts is one of my design idols. This library in the Hamptons, which was published in House & Garden a few year back, never ceases to inspire me. There are so many things in here that I love. The fundamentals of this room are traditional - wood paneling, and tufted well-proportioned upholstered pieces set in a standard configuration, for example. But it's the pagoda lantern, the inlaid side table, the larger-scaled medallion rug (way before West Elm overdid the look), the hand-died fabric he drapes over the sofa, and the long bolster pillow with the bold center stripe of red, which take this room to another level. I must also note that I *really* want this cheetah painting. I never found the source - I think it was an antique painting on canvas from India.
