Patio Plans

We have a lot of brainstorming to do for our new patio.
Goals:
-A Patio (preferably bluestone) spanning across back of house from chicken coop on right to garage on left
- Outdoor shower (behind garage?)
-Areas for dining and for sitting/living and a firepit
-Area for grill. Do we build it in to a sitting wall or is it free-standing?
Challenges:
-budget constraints. For example, adding a wall adds $$$...
-Large drop in elevation over on garage side
-Reconfigure stairs off kitchen
-Stairs off patio to playarea/swingset below
Here is a nice, simple patio design I found online. It is also a cape so I thought it was relevant to our project. It also incorporates the materials I would choose for ours.
Stay tuned...

privet with a bow on top

today is my birthday and here is the best present a girl with a new obsession with gardening/landscaping could receive: privets!

although i tom and i do our own landscaping and yard work, what would have taken us at least a week and a half to complete - 45 holes to dig between work and childrens' schedules- has been finished in a few hours with the help of a landscaper, sergio.
i feel very grateful today! i have health, family, friends, and a special home.

Privet Stalking

We are headed back to the Vineyard this weekend with our good friends who are visiting from San Diego. When we were there last I did a lot of landscape stalking. We are planning to plant a privet (green hedge) along our fenceline and I got really inspired by the privets of Edgartown. Although these are not year-round privacy screens, they are so classic and beautiful.

Have a great weekend!
